Community Activities

Flags of Honor

Through its various fundraisers, the Exchange Club of Muncie provides funds and support for local community organizations and activities that support the four programs of service. The primary fundraiser for the Club is the Flags of Honor. Each September, the public can experience a “sea of red, white, and blue” as more than a thousand flags adorn the lawn of the Minnetrista Cultural Center. Through the Flags of Honor, the Muncie Exchange Club honors the memory of local veterans, current service personnel, fallen heroes, and all those who wish to display their pride for our country. With a gift of $30, friends, families, and organizations receive a yellow ribbon with the name of someone who has served their country to which they wish to pay tribute. Funds raised from the Flags of Honor benefit the charities supported by the Exchange Club of Muncie, focusing on the four programs of service.

Muncie Exchange Club Service Projects

Each year, the Exchange Club of Muncie sponsors and funds activities to make our community a better place to live.

To address critical problems in our community, the Exchange Club has made donations over the years to various organizations such as Inside Out, Boys and Girls Club, Prevent Child Abuse Council of Delaware Country, AMVETS Royerton, Camp Crosley, United Way, The Salvation Army Christmas Fund, the Muncie Mission, the Junior Achievement program, Cardinal Greenway, A Better Way, and The Cornerstone Center for the Arts, and many other deserving organizations

To foster academic excellence in our schools, the Exchange Club holds a Sophomore Honor Day annually to recognize the best students among the sophomores at Muncie Central High School and Burris Laboratory School.

To help increase awareness of child abuse, the Exchange Club works with the Delaware County Prevention of Child Abuse Council during Child Abuse Prevention Month to place Prevent Child Abuse signs all over Delaware Country along with pinwheel gardens. The Club also has rented two electronic billboards with a message regarding child abuse prevention.

To recognize the contributions of our military service men and women, the Exchange Club has distributed flags at the Memorial Day observance held each year at Beech Grove Cemetery, provided funding and flags for attendees for the Veterans Day dinner and ceremony held at Muncie Central High School, and paid tribute to veterans at the Veterans Day ceremony at Westminster Retirement Facility.

To foster patriotism, the Exchange Club has donated flags to every school in Delaware County, participated in the Ball State Homecoming Parade distributing flags along the parade route, given flags to children during the Family Food Day Truck Event at Muncie Mall and during Minnetrista’s Fourth of July Fireworks Concert.

To help children and needy families, the Exchange Club holds a Christmas money drive each December. The funds raised have assisted such organizations as Toys for Tots, Salvation Army and the Muncie Mission in their efforts to address the hardships of many in the Muncie community during the Christmas season. In addition, the Club has helped with manpower and funding for the Cardinal Greenway Christmas at the Depot–a Christmas holiday event which distributes toys to children who attend.
