As part of the Exchange Club of Muncie commitment to helping the youth of our community, members of the Club assisted Heart of Indiana United Way in giving away books for the Summer Reading program. Many children lose reading skills during the summer months unless they are challenged to do some independent reading during the summer break. Heart of Indiana United Way gives away 8 books to K-5 students at Grissom, Longfellow and Southview Elementary to try to prevent the loss of reading skills when out of school. Members of the Club help the children find appropriately level books but also get to share in the excitement the students feel when receiving the books.
